It gives me great pleasure to recommend Sydney Building
John Colet School is a multi-faith, co-ed, independent K-6 school, located within a peaceful bushland setting in Belrose, on the Northern Beaches of Sydney.
In 2021 the School embarked on a major construction project consisting of two classrooms, a purpose designed Art room, undercover learning and play area, and surrounding works including a new playing field and landscaped area.
From the very beginning SBP were keen to work closely with our school and understand our unique environment, both in terms of the physical landscape and with regards to our staff, students and the learning environment.
SBP worked to ensure minimal disruption to our regular school program and were often proactive in bringing up considerations and solutions as different stages of the construction were planned.
The period in which this construction occurred was across one of the most difficult for the construction industry in Sydney. COVID restrictions was having a major impact on the labour market, shipping delays and rising costs were resulting in rising material costs, and there was the unprecedented wet weather.
Our contract was of a fixed price with SBP and at no time did they pass on increase costs as a result of the conditions mentioned above, unless these had been agreed to or there was an alteration to works agreed to by the School.
Throughout SBP were unwavering in their commitment to bring this project to fruition and that it be of the highest quality. We have no hesitation in recommending SBP as a builder of choice.

Admiralty HouseAs a result of the current works, it is a great delight to see the main state rooms, including the dining room, reception, study and bedroom looking so well.  The voice and data cabling in the main house has been replaced and the transformation of the gardens in our term is quite remarkable, with a good plan in place for their continuing improvement.

The landscape projects include the pergola, water tank paving, main drive bookleaf wall installation, the summer house and upgraded pathways. Air conditioning is soon to follow.

In all, the complete establishment of house and grounds is now brought to a level of beauty and excellence, which not only reflects great credit on all here today, but also makes me very proud to pass it on to Her Excellency Quentin Bryce and Mr Michael Bryce in a few months’ time.

I thank the many experts, craftsmen and women, and gardening staff who have brought these improvements about and Matthew McDonald, the Custodian and the staff here who have overseen and managed the transformation.

In particular, I should like to make a special mention of: George Phillips of Tanner Architects; Matthew Taylor of Taylor Brammer Landscape Architects; Ignite, who replaced the communications equipment; Peter Carlino and the team from Sydney Building Projects; Peyton Butler, our Property and Services Manager; and Lee, David, Michael and Norm - our gardeners.

Well done to you all and thank you from Marlena and me.

Oxfam HeadquartersWith a major fitout to the Agency’s Sydney offices now completed, we are delighted to be able to recommend the services of Sydney Building Projects Pty Ltd to any prospective new clients.

The scope of works for Sydney Building Projects Pty Ltd pertained to both the management and construction of fitout works in our leased office space, in addition to those special requirements of a building having a heritage listing overlay. While the scope of works was relatively straightforward with the construction of new offices, meeting rooms, staff facilities, painting, carpet and new joinery, the project requirements from our end were complex and meant that the project needed to be completed in three distinct stages.

Being an NGO there were two major requirements we could not deviate from:

  1. We were not in a financial or organizational position to relocate the office and staff to temporary outside accommodation during the fitout, therefore works had to be delicately staged.
  2. The need to work to a very tight budget.

Peter Dixon, Principal of Sydney Building Projects Pty Ltd, and his team clearly understood the Agency’s requirements and these were clearly demonstrated throughout the project. Sydney Building Projects Pty Ltd proved professional and efficient in all our dealings. The success of the fitout of our Sydney office has been a major talking point, and it has significantly lifted staff morale. At Board level there is a sense of real accomplishment that is resonating throughout the agency, and I imagine this will be the case for some time to come.

Again, we have no reservations in recommending the services of Sydney Building Projects Pty Ltd and are happy to confer with anyone who needs to speak with an NGO who has had first-hand experience with this professional building team.

Butterflies Child CareSydney Building Projects was commissioned to carry out major renovation works constructing our brand new Daycare Centre known as “Butterflies Early Learning and Childcare Centre” located at 9 Waltham Street Artarmon.

During all phases of construction we found the quality of workmanship to be of the highest and the project was completed in a timely manner allowing us to open our centre bang on the marketing target.

The attitude of all workers involved on the renovation was one of co-operation and harmony, reflecting the strong leadership and discipline shown by Peter Dixon, Managing Director of the Company.

We would be pleased to speak with anyone who would wish to discuss this further.

International Grammar School LibraryPeter Dixon and Sydney Building Projects (SBP) have done a number of construction projects for us. Some were complicated and some were relatively simple.

We have always been pleased with the outcome. All of the projects were undertaken during school holiday periods, including Xmas.

All projects have been completed on time, on budget and with an impeccable standard of finish and detail. The construction and finish of the new Administration Centre is outstanding in every detail.

We would highly recommend Peter Dixon and his team at SBP for any building or renovation project that you may be considering.

Museum of Contemporary Art officeSydney Building Projects were the successful contractor for our recent strip out, refurbishment and fitout of Level 5 of the Museum of Contemporary Art for a commercial letting.

When negotiations with the Tenant over alterations to the base fitout to accommodate the Tenant’s own preferences slowed the MCA works, Sydney Building Projects were pro-active in providing revisions to designs and agreeing these with the consultant teams and, as a result of their co-operation and diligence were appointed by the Tenant to carry out the Tenant’s element of the works.

Negotiations and re-design took time and in the event Sydney Building Projects needed to carry out the fitout for both MCA and the Tenant, in value over $2.5M, within 9weeks. With the co-operation of MCA and the Tenant to cover some nominal acceleration costs Sydney Building Projects were able to bring the combined projects to completion in time for the Tenant to move in with very few defects to deal with.

We have found their management of quality, cost and program very good. Sydney Building Projects have also dealt extremely well with maintaining security and safety in all areas affected by the work and co-operating with the transit of staff and materials across common areas of the building which is an extremely busy working art gallery. Their staff have been polite and helpful and we look forward to working with Sydney Building Projects again in the future.

St. Mary's Parish Church, Erskineville We have been engaging Sydney Building Projects for a number of years now. Notably they restored our Church bell-tower and bell, quite a challenging project. Also they completed internal alterations and additions to the Church building including a new mezzanine level in part of the Church.

The workmanship and finish of these projects have completely satisfied, indeed, delighted the whole parish community, a number of whom are knowledgeable in these matters. The courtesy and willingness of the workmen to accommodate their work to Church activities has been much appreciated.

We have recommended Sydney Building Projects to others, and are planning to engage them ourselves again.
